Yes, I know. But it’s really a great cocktail! I’m sure Sex and the City ruined this as a serious cocktail (or is it the fact that it’s pink and has vodka as the base spirit?), but I like Sex and the City, I’m not averse to pink drinks, and frankly, I quite enjoy combining the two. (Cosmo + bathtub + SITC on iPad = excellent Saturday night. Too much information?).
A good Cosmo is just pale pink with a hint of cranberry juice – the fresh lime should really be dominant. It’s a pretty strong drink, nowhere near as sweet and delicate as it looks. The cranberry juice just sweetens it up enough to be palatable, and you really need a smooth vodka for this one.
Ingredients:
1 1/2 oz vodka
1/2 oz Cointreau
1/2 oz cranberry juice
1/2 oz fresh lime juice
Shake all ingredients over ice and strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a twist of lemon or orange.
Oh yum! Roll on Friday! Wish I could have one tonight but that is a slippery, slippery slope … I usually use tequila instead of vodka – does that make it a cranberry margarita?
Ooh that’s interesting – will have to try!
Pretty bold to post a cosmo recipe. This one looks great. So does the bright tablecloth. And how do you get your twist looking so nice!?
Thank you – it’s a shame there’s so much cocktail snobbery around, it’s a lovely drink. I just use a normal veg peeler for my twists and then trim the edges with a knife – not particularly sophisticated but it works!
oh i do love a good cosmo! it is always delish. as i am not a big fan of cranberry juice (which is always a bit sugary), i normally use pomegranate juice – then it also turns from pink to red 🙂
Yes – I did that once when I only had pomegranate juice and it was gorgeous!
